Lois Joan Beeber passed away on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at Park Place Memory Care after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was born on March 31, 1931, to Glen and Esther Kerns in Portland, Indiana. She graduated as a registered nurse from the Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in 1952 and began her service working at Lutheran Hospital. Joan later joined Pediatric Associates Inc. as a nurse to Dr. William C. Ashman from 1964 to 1993. She and her husband Joseph were charter members of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church and supported Bishop Luers High School football programs with fundraising. Joan was an active reader, avid camper, and adventurous traveler to Britain, Ireland, Norway, and Germany. Joan was a member of Psi Iota Xi Sorority, Lutheran Hospital Nurses Association, and Portland High School alumni group. A loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Joan cheerfully hosted countless family dinners and holiday celebrations.
She was preceded in death by her loving husbands, Roland H. Stevens (1985) and Joseph Beeber (2002), her infant daughter Rebecca Stevens (1956), her parents, and siblings Bertha Leah Kerns (1930), Max Kerns (1999) and Glenna White (2017). She is survived by her children: Marilyn (Mark) Petersen of Fort Wayne, Brian (Ida) Stevens of San Jose, CA, Millicent (John) Farquhar of Colorado Springs, CO, Bradley (Mindy) Stevens of Hamilton, IN, Beth (Al) Montemurro of Annandale, NJ, and Bradley Beeber of Minot, ND and sisters: Norma Cash, Mary Krueckeberg, Martha Kerns, and Sharon Vlachos. She was blessed with 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday April 7, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church 10700 Aboite Ctr. Rd. Ft. Wayne, IN with calling 1 hour prior to service. There will be a private interment. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested in Joan Beeber's name to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church or the American Alzheimer's Association at https://www.alz.org/ or (800)-272-3900. Covington Memorial Funeral Home assisting family with arrangements.
