Obituary

Lois “Jeanette” Black, 88, of Fort Wayne, passed away peacefully, Friday, September 4, 2026. She was born June 25, 1938, in Huntington, Indiana, to Charles and Sylvia Kern.

Jeanette enjoyed many things in life, including bingo, bowling, poker, NASCAR, gardening, and traveling to Gulf Shores and casinos with her late husband, Herbert Black, Sr. She loved spending time watching birds, squirrels, and deer. Most of all, Jeanette cherished her family and especially enjoyed being a grandmother. Her grandchildren were her whole life.

She is survived by her two daughters, Kathryn (Darren) Walker and Jennifer (Jamie) Powell; 11 grandchildren, Josh (Salontai), Lindsay (Austin), Matt, Joe, Austin (Megan), Cameron, Lacey (Chris), Patricia (Jay), Christina (Brad), Edison (William), and James (Lexy); nine great-grandchildren, Brianna, Josh, Angel, Walker, Isla, Addison, Destiny (Michael), Jacob, and Jenna; and one great-great-grandchild, Theo.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Sylvia Kern; her husband, Herbert Black, Sr.; two sons, Herb Jr. and Phillip; two brothers; and three sisters.

Jeanette will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family and all who knew her.

In keeping with her wishes, cremation will take place. Interment will take place at a later date at Catholic Cemetery next to her husband, Herbert Sr.
