Luella E. Sappington, 100, of Fort Wayne, died Wednesday October 31, 2007. Born Luella Edna Chapman in Adams County in 1907, she was a graduate of Tri-State College in Angola and taught school for 20 years. She married George Sappington in 1929. Her husband''s job allowed her to live in Chicago, North and South Dakota and Denver, Colorado. They retired to Zapata Texas in 1969 and Mrs. Sappington moved back to Fort Wayne in 1999 and enjoyed being near family. During her life, she enjoyed sewing and basketball, which she played and coached during college and after. She was an avid NBA fan. She and her husband also enjoyed motorcycling, taking trips from Texas to Colorado and Wyoming well into their 70''s. Surviving are sisters-in-law, Mary Hess and Cythera Baughman both of Fort Wayne; niece Heidy Kiess, of Fort Wayne; nephew, Craig Hess of Chapin, SC; and several other nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, George in 1991; four sisters, and one brother.
