Obituary

M. Bruce Scott, 64, was welcomed into the loving arms of the Lord on October 29, 2026. Bruce passed away at Parkview Randalia after a medical emergency that began at his office in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was born on September 19, 1962, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, to Harry and Margene (Fricke) Scott. He married the love of his life Eve Kwasneski on August 18, 1990.

Bruce was a man of integrity, who listened first and spoke second. He carried a big heart for those closest to him. This was shown through all aspects of his life. He was a devoted husband to Eve and a loving father of Aaron and Elisha. Bruce loved making others laugh, whether through a well-timed joke or a funny scene from a movie. He was someone that was fully present no matter what was going on in life. When traveling or with friends he always brought energy and laughter to every situation. He gave himself fully to everything he did, even if it included wearing an orange hunting suit in freezing temperatures to direct school traffic or showing up to every sporting event of his kids.

Bruce obtained his Bachelor of Arts from Wabash College, class of 1985. He went on to obtain his Juris Doctor at Valparaiso University Law School, class of 1988. Bruce was admitted to the Indiana Bar on October 14, 1988. He devoted his career to the practice of family law in Fort Wayne and surrounding counties. Bruce established his own law firm, Scott & Aplin LLC, with his good friend and law partner Robert D. Aplin in 2016. Bruce was joined in his practice by his son Aaron in 2023. Bruce devoted his time to his clients providing legal services catered to them and their families for 38 proud years.

He loved to coach baseball for his son Aaron, as well as take the team photos later in his baseball career. Either on the field or off, he found great joy in both baseball and photography. As his love of photography continued, he became the photographer for many events including serving as the photographer for Masonic Events.

He enjoyed many sports in his life. He loved golf with his daughter and his annual golf trips with his friends. He later became an avid road cyclist where he rode many miles each day, as he often was training for the next race he wanted to accomplish. Along with sports he had a great love for music. In early years he could be found playing trumpet for the marching band, to more recent years strumming on his guitar at home.

If you saw Bruce when he wasn’t around others, he had many other hobbies. His love for gardening was something he took great pride in. From his kale in the basement, to his raised beds of different vegetables in the backyard, you knew you could find him listening to music and weeding away after a long day. He enjoyed providing for his family and friends with the fresh produce that he grew year-round. Along with gardening he could always be found in a good book or working on a puzzle. He loved games, learning, and never shied away from a challenge.

Bruce was a proud member of The Freemasons, an organization that is dedicated to “making good men better” with core values of brotherly love, charity, and truth. Sir Knight Bruce Scott was Aide to the REGC and also Assistant Grand Photographer who served as a Deputy Battalion Commander.

He served on the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of The State of Indiana and the Grand Council Cryptic Masons of Indiana as well as their Grand Photographer. Sir Knight Bruce Scott was a member of the Fort Wayne Commandery, Huntington Commandery, Waynedale Lodge, and 33 Degree of the Fort Wayne Valley of the Scottish Rite.

Along with all of this, faith was the most important thing to him in the end. He was devoted to taking his family to church on Sundays and being in the Word. He found great fellowship at Oak Park Church and was also a part of Bible Study Fellowship. He most recently enjoyed reading Proverbs every morning with his coffee and could often be found studying Job in this last season of his life. His love for the Lord shone through him through his cancer diagnosis, often crediting prayer and the Lord for his endurance through treatments.

He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Eve; children, Aaron (Natalie) Scott and Elisha (Brandon) Ancona; granddaughter, Cailey; mother, Margene Scott; and sister, Debra (Tom) Easterday; nephew, Matt Easterday, niece, Anne (Clinton) Bohm and five great nephews, Ryan, Thomas, James, Mathias and Andrew Bohm.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harry Scott.

Visitation will be held Thursday, November 5, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Covington Memorial Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46804, and one hour prior to the funeral service on Friday, November 6, 2026. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Covington Memorial Gardens.

Memorial donations may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
