Madalene Slater, 80, of Fort Wayne, died, Sunday, August 17, 2014 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Illinois. Born June 5, 1934 in Richlands, North Carolina; she was the daughter to the late Alfred Dunn Horne and Mamie (Batchelor) Horne. She was a member of the Waynedale United Methodist Church. She was a devoted wife of 62 years to the late, Philip W. Slater, he passed on March 28, 2013; and a wonderful homemaker for her family.

She is survived by son and daughter in law, Todd and Nancy Slater of Glen Carbon, Illinois; granddaughters, Sarah and Laura; sister, Velma Jenkins.

She was preceded in death also by her two year old daughter, Lori Lynn Slater; twin sister, Margaret Roberts; brother, Neil Horne.

Service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Covington Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road, with calling 30 minutes prior to service. Calling is also 5-8 p.m., Friday, August 22, 2014 at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest at Covington Memorial Gardens. Preferred memorials are to Waynedale United Methodist Church or Lutheran Senior Services.
