Marilyn Smith, age 74, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Born on April 25, 1951, to Donald Young and Devona Barker (Morrical), Marilyn lived a life marked by kindness, laughter, and deep devotion to family and friends. Marilyn graduated High School in 1970. She married William John "Jack" Smith, on September 3, 1977, with whom she shared many joyful years. They lived in several places, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Findlay, Ohio and eventually, Fort Wayne. Their love was a foundation for countless memories made with their blended family.
Marilyn was a cherished bonus mother to Tina James (husband Kurt), Shaun Smith, and Ryan Smith (wife Desiree). She was a proud and loving grandmother to Ryley and Reagan Smith, Joshua James, Dillon Morlan and his wife Kayleigh, and Samantha Smith. She was blessed with two great-grandchildren, Freya and Kaia, who brought her endless joy.
She is also survived by her siblings: Michael Young, Maria Schnelker, Steve Young, Geoff Morrical (wife Lisa), Sande Anderson (husband Steve) and Patti Boyle (husband Dennis). Her family, both immediate and extended, was a constant source of pride and happiness in her life.
Marilyn retired after 30 years of dedicated service to the Allen County Public Library.
In her retirement, Marilyn found immense joy in spending time with her grandchildren, bowling and playing Bunko with her girlfriends. She also enjoyed peaceful days at Snow Lake with Jack, plus catching frogs and feeding swans with her grandkids.
Her sense of humor, generous heart, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A celebration of Marilyn's life will begin at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at Covington Memorial Funeral Home 8408 Covington Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46804. Friends and family will gather from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM to honor her memory and share in the love she gave so freely. Inurnment will follow at Lindenwood Cemetery, 2324 W Main Street, Fort Wayne, In 46808.
