Obituary

Marion "Mac" Lee McCarty, 70, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2021 at home with his family.  He was born January 25, 1951 in Fort Wayne to the late Nicholas and Geraldine (Farmer) McCarty.

Retired Sergeant First Class, Mac proudly served in the US Army for 20 years and was a VietNam veteran.  He enjoyed cooking and his Army career was spent as a mess sergeant and won several awards and citations during his career.  After Mac retired from the Army he continued his culinary career at the Back 40 Junction restaurant in Decatur and Bandidos in Ft. Wayne.  He was dearly loved by his family as a "huge part of their lives and big personality."  Mac enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, and baseball.

Marion (Mac) leaves behind his wife of 46 years, Carol (nee: Bailey Sgt. USA); son, Jason Lee McCarty and wife Ronnica.  He was the proud grandfather of Labrina Lynn (Brina) McCarty and Maddox Lee McCarty.  He is further survived by his sister, Elizabeth Jane Howe and husband Don; brother, John Edward McCarty and wife Linda; cousins, Doug Farmer and Cindy Cearbaugh as well as several nieces, nephews, and family in Seattle.

In addition to his parents, Mac was preceded in death by his cousin, Dennis Farmer.

Covington Memorial Funeral Home, Fort Wayne has the privilege of serving Mr. McCarty and his family.  Plans for a memorial service to be announced at a later date.

The family is requesting, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made in his honor to the Youth Group of the Zion Hill Baptist Church, 16018 Zion Hill Rd, Andalusia, AL 36421.
