Mary Kathryn "Katie" Monesmith, 91, a housewife formerly of Fort Wayne, died on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at Baptist Trinity Hospice House in Collierville, Tennessee. She moved to the Memphis area in 2004 to be near her son Kent.
"Katie was a devoted Christian and a kind, gentle, loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister to her husband''s brother and sister. She lived every day of her life by following the Golden Rule."
She was born in an upstairs bedroom of her grandfather''s house in Adams County and was a graduate from South Side High School. She became engaged to her husband, Kenneth W. Monesmith, in 1941 and after waiting faithfully for him to return home after World War II, they were then married in 1945. They were happily married for 57 years until his death in 2002. She was also preceded in death by her father, Charles Cremean; her mother, Esther (Fox) Cremean; an unnamed baby sister (both mother and child died during childbirth); step-mothers, Gladys (Miller) Cremean and Lelia (Hille) Cremean; sister in law, Eleanor Hirschman; niece, Debbie Hirschman; and a nephew, Bill Monesmith.
She is survived by her son, Kent Monesmith; granddaughter, Shayne Haid; grandson, Brent Monesmith; great grandchildren, Alex and Samuel Haid and Kadin Monesmith; brother-in-law, George (Joan) Monesmith; nieces, Mickie Jones and Ellen Gaff; nephews, Ron and Steve Monesmith; and her loving caregiver, Kim Baker.
Service is 11 a.m., Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at Covington Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road, with calling one hour prior. She will be laid to rest at Covington Memorial Gardens.
