Mary Ellen Smith, 89, of Fort Wayne, died on Tuesday, February 2, 2012 at Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home. Born in Hillsdale, Michigan, she was the daughter to the late Guy and Nellie Durbin. Always a homemaker she did work a little outside of the home at Sears as a cashier and in the Fort Wayne Community Schools as a teacher''s aid.
She is survived by her daughter, Peggy (Jim) Perry of Fort Wayne; son, Tim (Debbie) Smith of Wyoming, Michigan; sister, Jacqueline Hite of Mt. Morris, Michigan; six grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold E. Smith, in 2001; bother, Howard Durbin; and sisters, Patricia Appleby and Donna Bowman.
Memorial Service is 1 p.m. Saturday, February 11, 2012 at Covington Memorial Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road, with calling one hour prior. She will be inurned at Covington Memorial Gardens. Memorials are to Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home.
