With great sadness we announce the passing of, Matthew Russell Salyer, 54 ,  at his home in Fort Wayne on June 26, 2021. A loving husband, step-father, step-grandfather, brother, son, uncle, nephew, friend, and colleague. Matt was one of the kindest, most caring, funny, and humble people to ever light up a room. From his infectious laughter and quick wit, to his caring presence, his family, and many, many friends often described Matt as simply "always there for you."

Matt grew up in Hamilton, Ohio, where he served as Badin High School's Senior Class President.  He went on to earn his Bachelor's degree in Marketing at Miami University, before finally finding his true career calling, becoming a Registered Nurse. Caring for others was a natural fit, and Matt excelled in, and loved his role. He had many interests and hobbies throughout his life, and was always curious and learning. Matt loved deep discussions and debates with friends and family, the Cincinnati Reds and his cat Pepper but his true purpose in this life was to simply love and connect with those around him.

The person with whom Matt most connected, was the love of his life, his wife Kristi Francis Salyer (Manwaring).  He spent his final days with her at their home dealing with the challenges of Pancreatic/Liver Cancer.  Seeing the love shared between the two of them during this impossibly difficult time was an inspiration to everyone around them.

Matthew was preceded in death by his infant sister Anne Marie Salyer, his loving mother Angela Helen (Jungkunz) & father Ronald Victor Salyer.

Matthew is survived by his loving wife, Kristi Francis Salyer (Manwaring); his brother, Ronald P. Salyer & his wife Jeannie (Haas) of Troy, OH; his sister, Susan M. Salyer Lindgren & her husband Leonard,  of Longmont, CO; his nephews & nieces,  Jacob, Zachary and Rita Salyer, Tara and Sean Lindgren; his step-nieces and nephews, Mary Kate, Zachary, Anna Beth and Caroline Haas; Logan, Lucas, Levi, Lincoln and Landon Francis, Avery, Adelyn and Hayden Long, his step-great niece,  Sunny Haas; his step-children,  Derek (Jessica) Casper, Danielle (Brandon) Hetzner and Dylan (Kinzie) Manwaring; his step grandchildren, Reece Park, Jett and Haven Casper, Camdon and Harlow Hetzner and Caluhan Manwaring; his Aunt Rosemary (Salyer) Sackenheim, his Aunt Claire (Salyer) Lane Rickert; many Jungkunz, Sackenheim, Lane, & Vogt cousins who were his childhood & lifelong friends; and countless friends many of whom he considered as his family.

A memorial mass will be held on August 7, 2021 at St. Ann Catholic Church, 646 Clinton Ave, Hamilton Ohio at 10:30 am.
