Melvin Lee Gater, 68, passed Sunday, December 16, 2018.  He was born December 16, 1950 to the late Richard and Bernice Gater.  He was a Regional Sales Manager for G.M. for over 35 years receiving many awards.  While working as a sales manager for G.M. he received an Associates in Business.  After his retirement he then had worked for Flare Inc.  Mel was currently working on the details for the 50 year class reunion from Elmhurst class of 1969.

Mel is survived by sons, Jim Gater of Fort Wayne and Jeff (Kristen) Gater of Westfield; daughter, Katie Gater of Fort Wayne; granddaughters, Makenzie, Megan and Emma; and his furry friends, Kiera, Snickers and Charlie.

He was preceded in death by sister, Marcia Gunter.

Gathering of Friends and Family is 1-4 p.m., Friday, December 28, 2018 at Covington Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road.  Preferred memorials are to American Cancer Association, American Lung Association or Fort Wayne Humane Society.
