Melvin "Dean" Whitesel, 85, died at 3:15 a.m. September 3, 2011. Born July 19, 1926, in Richvalley, Indiana he was the son of the late Paul and Ethyl L. (Harwood) Whitesel. He married Wilma May Clark of North Manchester on Jan 28, 1946, and she died March 23, 2008. He attended school at Linlawn of Wabash County and later went to Purdue at Fort Wayne. He retired from ITT in Fort Wayne with 40 years of service, and was an associate Engineer and a member of the American Legion Post 82 and the Korean War Veterans Association of Fort Wayne, Indiana. He also did Volunteering at the Library and Parkview Hospital. He served his country in the Army during World War II (Germany) and later in Korea.
He is survived by a son, Kevin D. and Georgiana (Woods) Whitesel of Fort Wayne; two grandchildren, Cory L. of Decatur, Melissa J. and Daniel Adams of Fort Wayne; five great-grand daughters, Sabrina, Alexus, Madison, Hailey and Tiffany and one great grandson, Wyatt; two sisters, Alvena (Harwood) and Robert Ryan of Colorado and Phyllis (Harwood) and Leroy Heue of Washington State.
Funeral services is 10 a.m., Friday, September 9, 2011 at Covington Memorial Funeral Home, with calling one hour prior. Friends may call from 1-3 & 5-8 p.m. Thursday. He will be laid to rest at Covington Memorial Gardens. Preferred memorial is to your local American Legion or the Korean War Veterans Association Chapter 1 of Fort Wayne.
