Mike Fink, 79, passed away Thursday, October 24th, 2019 at Saint Anne's nursing home in Fort Wayne. Mike was born in Yugoslavia to the late Mathias and Julianna (Frei) Fink. His family emigrated to the United States when Mike was twelve years old. They spent some time living in Colorado before settling in Fort Wayne, Indiana where Mike attended Central Catholic High School. As the owner and operator of MF Electric, Mike's dedication to his craft and his strong work ethic left him highly regarded by his colleagues. Other contractors, suppliers and customers became close friends and Mike's reputation as an honest businessman proceeded him always. Mike enjoyed using his skills as an electrician to help out in the community as well. Every summer, for over a decade, he would organize groups of volunteers to get the electrical services hooked up for the Junk Food Alley and Beer Tent events for the Three Rivers Festival. Another large undertaking that he so enjoyed was setting up the electrical for the Fort Wayne New Car Dealer's Association tent sale at the War Memorial Coliseum.
While he took great pleasure in his work, Mike also knew how to kick back and enjoy all that life had to offer. He was a member of the American Legion 241 in Waynedale and FOE 248 on Bluffton Rd. The holiday and live music events were some of his favorites to attend. Mike shared an easy smile with everyone and took great pleasure in visiting with friends and family. Mike spent years of seasonal camping at Manapogo Campground in Orland, IN. There was a close knit group of friends that camped there together every year. Those lifelong friends remain, to this day, as close as family. Mike always enjoyed having a good time at the Sports Club on Ardmore Ave. He so loved polka and waltz music, as it was part of his heritage, and there was never a shortage of good music at the club for him to dance to.
In his younger years, Mike was quite the clothes horse. He sported western wear, often times wearing western cut suits, bolo ties and cowboy boots. One of his favorite hobbies was watching old western TV programs and movies. Mike enjoyed the lake life as well, with his lake cottage on Irish Lake in Barbee Estates. It was there that he could relax, but more often than not, he was always finding projects to work on. He created a beautiful lake side oasis with a sprawling deck and a beautiful three season room that was often filled with family and friends. Mike loved taking people out on his pontoon, to give them tours of the lake and showing them the sights. Later in life, when Mike semi-retired, he and his wife Carol built a beautiful home on Kuhn lake in Pierceton and moved to the lake full time, returning to the Wayndale area of Fort Wayne in 2008. After the return to Waynedale, Mike's friendships with old friends and new were strengthened and rekindled. He started just about every day down at the Waynedale Cafe where he would eat his strawberry crepes and hang out with his "cronies." He was rarely spotted leaving the cafe without his to-go cup of coffee.
Mike was proceeded in death by his first wife, Virginia, the mother of his oldest three children, Michael (Elaine) Fink, Adam (Tracey) Fink and Jenni (Ronnie) Hoskins all of Fort Wayne. Mike is also survived by his second wife of 44 years, Carol (Hageman) Fink; and their son Todd (Jennifer) Fink, also of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Amber Larkin, Josh Fink, Cody (Allison) Fink, Riley Fink, Angel Fink, Ronnica (Jason) Hoskins, Marisha (James) Hoskins and Robert Fink; and several great grand children as well; siblings, Adam (Penny) Fink, Ele (Steve) Campbell and Margaret (Steve) Schenkel.
Funeral services are 11 a.m., Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at Covington Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road with calling one hour prior. Calling is also 4-8pm., Monday, October 28th, 2019 at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Covington Memorial Gardens. Preferred memorials are to the Pointe Church or the Fort Wayne Rescue Mission.
In Loving Memory of Mike Fink
The memories
will never be forgotten.
No matter where you are.
In our hearts you will remain.
You will never be to far.
A bright light in the sky now.
Heaven's newest star.
So fly with the angels, until we see each other again.
We love and miss you but we know this is not the end.
