Neoma G. Kenwood, 90, passed peacefully on August 5, 2010 at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home with her family at her side. A woman of great intellect, charm, kindness and generosity, Neoma was born in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, the daughter of the late Eliza Beulah Acres and James Webber. She graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a B.S. in Nursing. She worked as a Registered Nurse and taught in the school of nursing at Providence Hospital for several years. In 1946, she married John Kenwood and they moved to the United States, settling in Fort Wayne. She and John worked, hand in hand, building their business, J.C. Kenwood, Inc., and tirelessly serving the hearing-impaired community in Fort Wayne and the surrounding area for over 60 years. Neoma lived a busy life, working full time, raising three daughters, and attending to her many interests - gardening, cooking, reading, traveling and numerous artistic projects. Her curiosity, fearlessness, and love of life led her to many new adventures, such as flying her own airplane. She was a creative soul who touched the lives of so many people. As described by her granddaughter, Lindsey, Neoma made everyone feel special and held every human being in the highest regard. She is survived by her devoted husband of almost 64 years, John; her three daughters, Elizabeth (Paul) Anton of Melrose, Mass., Jamie Kenwood of Amador City, Calf., and Neoma D. (Don Specter) Kenwood of Kensington, Calf.; and four grandchildren, Lindsey Anton of Saugus, Mass., Michael Anton (Julianna) of Auburn, Mass., and Jonas and Emily Specter. She is preceded in death by one brother, James Webber and one sister, Florence Lillico. Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at Covington Memorial Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road, Fort Wayne. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hearing Aid Foundation of the International Hearing Society, 16880 Middlebelt Road, Suite 4, Livonia, MI 48154-3367.
