Paul Allen Turner, 72 of Waxhaw, North Carolina passed away on Sunday, September 27. 2020.
Paul was born November 11, 1947 in Decatur, Indiana, a son of late Rev. O.B. Turner and Martha Turner. On April 24, 1971, he married Jeanne Beth Ferguson and she survives. Their son Tom is deceased. Sister and brothers that are deceased are, Evelyn (June) Hey, Willshire Ohio; Charles (Chuck) of Van Wert, Ohio; Robert (Bob) of LaFayette, Louisiana, and David of Willshire, Ohio. One sister survives, Judy Wilkinson, Jacksonville, North Carolina.
Paul grew up in Wren, Ohio, and the son of a Baptist minister. He loved to play the piano. Paul used his talent for the Lord by ministering through the local church. He has been the church piano accompanist under the ministries of Dr. David Jeremiah as church pianist and traveling with him to TV rallies, etc. He also was an accompanist at Calvary Church in Charlotte during the pastorate of Dr. Ross Rhoads. Paul was church pianist at First Baptist Church of Matthews, NC for approximately thirteen years. Thereafter, he served as Pianist at First Baptist Indian Trail, NC, Pastor Mike Whitson, and then First Baptist Church of Charlotte, NC, Pastor Mark Harris prior to Paul attending First Baptist Church of Matthews, NC again. He also was the accompanist for The Revelation Quartet, A Southern Gospel quartet, for several years during his first tenure at First Baptist Matthews.
During these many years of ministry, Paul has had the opportunity to accompany and perform with many well-known Christian artists such as Bill Pearce, 16 Singing Men, Ellen Roweton, Steve Amerson, Ernie Haase, Don Wyrtzen, to name a few. He played the piano each week with Dan Miller, Calvary Church organist, while at Calvary Church. Paul also participated with Dan in one of his many annual Christmas organ/piano concerts. Paul has been guest conference pianist at the Billy Graham Training Center at the Cove and accompanist at several of the Billy Graham Staff Meetings at the headquarters in Charlotte. Paul has provided piano music at Christmas, at the Billy Graham Library. He also was selected to be the pianist for a CD produced by the Billy Graham Staff for what was one of Cliff Barrows' last birthdays.
While Paul was involved in many church music ministries, he held the positions of Chief Financial Officer with one of the Indiana's largest banks, Senior Vice President with Bank of America. He just retired as Manager of Operations for EW2 Environmental, Inc.
Calling hours will be held at Heritage Funeral Home, 3700 Forest Lawn Drive, Matthews, NC on Wednesday, September 30, between 6:00PM – 8:00 PM. Celebration Service will be held at First Baptist Church of Matthews, NC, Thursday, October 1 at 11:00AM. He will then be laid to rest at Covington Memorial Gardens, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Services will be held on Saturday, October 3, at 11:00AM at the Covington Memorial Funeral Home, Covington Road, Fort Wayne Indiana.
