Penelope “Penny” Henshaw, 86, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2026, in the comfort of her home while receiving compassionate care from Luminary Hospice, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on April 30, 1940, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where she was raised, Penny was a proud graduate of Elmhurst High School. She lived a life rooted in faith, family, and the simple joys that brought people together.
Penny was a devoted and active member of St. John’ Lutheran Church, where her faith remained a steady and meaningful part of her life.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gordon Henshaw.
Penny is lovingly survived by her daughter, Erin Hunter and spouse Gina Leggett; her son, Kevin Hunter and spouse Jennifer Hunter; her cherished granddaughter, Haley Hunter (Paul); and Kevin and Jennifer’s children and stepchildren, Violet, Kathleen, Susanne, Hannah, Sophie, and Benjamin; along with extended family, dear friends, and all whose lives were touched by her kindness.
Penny found joy in life’s everyday pleasures and the people she loved most. She loved playing bridge, was a devoted Indianapolis Colts fan, and enjoyed spending time watching the Game Show Network, which brought her much entertainment and laughter. Above all, Penny treasured time spent with her family. Whether gathered for celebrations, conversations, or simply enjoying one another’s company, those moments meant the most to her.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Luminary Hospice for the compassionate care and support they provided, allowing Penny to remain in the comfort and peace of her home surrounded by loved ones.
Penny will be remembered for her warmth, faith, strength, and the unwavering love she gave so freely to her family and friends. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services will be at 12:00 pm, Friday, May 22, 2026, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 729 West Washington Boulevard, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46802. Visitation will be two hours prior, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Burial will be in Covington Memorial Gardens following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lutheran Social Services of Indiana in Penny’s honor.
