Peter Njoroge Githiri was born August 28, 1944 in Kiambu, Kenya to Virginia Tati "Wathiru" and the
late Joel N. Githiri. He went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 12, 2015. During his time here on earth, Peter was a doting husband to his late wife, Annie L. "Williams" Githiri and an incredible father to his three childrenVirginia, Maria, and Joel. He was also favored to gain a daughter in-law, Lacretia "Farmer" Githiri. He experienced the joy of a grandson, Joel Githiri, Jr., and cherished every delightful moment that they spent together. Peter came to this country at the tender age of 16 and was blessed to live a fulfilled life fueled by dreams and a strong faith in God. He was in the field of accounting for more than 40 years, with more than 20 years of experience at Peter Eckrich (Fort Wayne, IN). Peter was an active member of Calvary Third Presbyterian church for many years. He also served in professional and community organizations including the National Association for Black Accountants and the Urban League. Peter was a master gardener, an avid photographer, and enjoyed traveling.
He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters; Dr. Virginia Githiri (Bloomington, IN), Maria Githiri (Plano, TX), one son; Joel (Lacretia) Githiri, and one grandson; Joel N. Githiri, Jr. (all of Indianapolis, IN). Two brothers; Samuel Waweru and Tom Karanja (both of Kenya). Six sisters; Eunice Wanjiru, Joyce Njeri, Grace Gathoni, Marice Wanjeri, Nancy Heta (all of Kenya), and Anne Wanjiku (Cincinnati, OH). Four step sisters; Edith Wanjiku, Hannah Wanjiku (both of Kenya), Ester Wanigu and Perpetua Wambui (both of the UK). His dearest friend; Renee Thomas (Carrollton, TX), and a host of many other relatives and friends.
Service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday April 18, 2015 at Way of Holiness Church 2101 Phenie St. Fort Wayne, IN with viewing one hour prior to service. Pastor Byron J. Williams, officiating and
Pastor Bernard A. Williams, Master of Ceremonies There will also be viewing 4 - 8 p.m. Friday April 17, 2015 at Covington Memorial Funeral Home 8408 Covington Rd. Fort Wayne, IN. Burial will be in Covington Memorial Gardens.
