July 17, 1929 – August 10, 2025
Ralph E. Doty, 96 of Fort Wayne passed away August 10, 2025, at Coventry Meadows. He was born on July 17, 1929, in Hoagland, a son of Irvin A. and Florence B. (Battenburg) Doty. He married Irene Vickers on May 23, 1953, and were happily married for 72 years.
Ralph honorably served his country in the United States Navy on the USS Knapp where he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. He then became a police officer in Fort Wayne and was a member of the motorcycle division and retired as a Detective. He was awarded a certificate of outstanding achievement on February 3, 1966, when he noticed the smell of natural gas. He swiftly evacuated the area and stopped traffic just prior to an explosion, saving numerous lives. Upon his retirement from law enforcement, he worked security for the VA Hospital for 10 years. He was a past member of Fraternal order of Eagles, the VFW and past commander of the American Legion Post 241. He enjoyed watching I.U. Basketball, playing blackjack, fishing and playing the harmonica.
Ralph is survived by his wife Irene; a son Daniel (Willa) Doty; two daughters, Denise (Timothy) Kleber and Donna (Anthony) Lobrillo; seven grandchildren, Andrew, Kandace, Joseph, Kyle, Kelsey, Tony and Hollie, 13 great grandchildren and a brother, Neil A. Doty. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Virginia Jolley and Mary Alcie Barr.
