Ralph Fredrick Gutmann, 91, of Rome City and formerly of Fort Wayne, died on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at Lutheran Life Villages of Kendallville. Born in Fort Wayne he was the son, of the late Rudolph and Frieda (Reckeweg) Gutmann. The Navy veteran was a member of the American Legion Post 296. He was a member of Grace St. John''s United Church of Christ. He was a farmer and had he worked for Paul Huth Construction until he bought them out and retired from Gutmann Construction in 1985.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Mary "Jane" Gutmann of Rome City; daughter, Debra (Alonzo) Drennon of Rome City; brother, Arthur Gutmann of Fort Wayne; sister, Ruth Sutorius of Fort Wayne; daughter in law, Debra Gutmann of Fort Wayne; son in law, Terry Carlson of Wisconsin; nine grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Gutmann, in 2002; daughter, Patricia Carlson, in 1984; great grand son, Dalton Skaggs; and a sister, Dorothy Baker.
Funeral Service is 1:00 p.m., Monday, July 15, 2013 at Covington Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road, with calling one hour prior. Calling is also 2-5 p.m. Sunday, July 14, 2013 at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Covington Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorials are to the church.
