Ralph Russell Hannie, 92, of Fort Wayne, passed away Thursday, October 2, 2014. Born in rural Berne, he was the son of the late, Adolph Hannie and Lulu (Striker) Hannie. A WWII veteran, Ralph served in the Army with the 147th Infantry Regiment. He graduated from IU in 1949. Ralph''s love for sports started at a young age; he was an avid fan of high school and college sports, especially I.U. basketball. He retired from Sears after more than 30 years of service. Ralph''s devotion to his family was seen through his hard work and dedication. During his later years he and his wife, Fern, enjoyed their RV trips across the country and into Canada. He is a member of Grace St. Johns Church.
He is survived by sons, Dan (Joanne Wilson) Hannie of Wilmette, Illinois and Tom (Betsy Dickerson) of New Haven; daughter Susan (Larry) Goshorn of Leo.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Fern S. Hannie, on January 2, 2014; and a sister, Pauline Bleeke.
Funeral Service is 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at Covington Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road, with calling one hour prior. Pastor Forrest Tabor will be officiating. Calling also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, October 6, 2014 at the funeral home. He will be entombed at Covington Memorial Gardens. Preferred memorials are to the Carriage House or Heartland Hospice.
