Ralph Junior Herndon
May 16, 1942 – December 08, 2021
Born in Yukon, McDowell County, West Virginia to James C. Herndon, Jr. and Magdalene (Bowen).
Ralph leaves behind his wife of 46 years, Peggy Jean (Nisonger) and the following :
Children: Ronald (Jill) Herndon, Rita (Greg) Papadakis, Rod (De) Parrish, Debra (James) Osborne, Todd (Lisa) Parrish, Brent (Angel) Parrish, Michael Szeman and Andrea (Jeremy) Halsey.
24 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Sisters: Carol (Al) Surpas, Wanda (Rick) Fix, Shirlene (Hubey) Tinsman, (Jerry) Bernice Herndon,
(Don) Pam Herndon, (Robert) Evelyn Shepard & Uncle: Charles Bowen.
Preceding him in death were his parents (James and Magdalene), Jillan Kaye Herndon (Mother of 2 children), his sister Lynn, brothers Jerry, Don and Robert & his granddaughter April. He also grieved the loss of nephews Jeff and Mike & his niece Christy.
Ralph's childhood neighbors, who would put bundles of switches for him on his mother's porch, may have been surprised to know that he graduated from Big Creek High School in 1960. He then moved to Indiana where he eventually became the Physical Plant Director for the Fort Wayne State Developmental Center. He retired after 29 years. Ralph attended every family function he possibly could as family was one of the most important things in his life. The First Pentecostal Church on Farwood Avenue is where he worshipped Jesus Christ and fellowshipped with his friends of many years. He loved God, his family, fishing, race cars and IU Basketball. (Not always in that order)
Everyone he met had potential to become family.
On Sunday, December 12, 2021, the viewing will be held from 2:00 – 4:00 Pm
