Ralph J. Merz, 87, of Fort Wayne, died on, Monday, February 16, 2015 at home. A Fort Wayne native he was born to the late, Arthur and Katherine Merz. He proudly served his country in the Navy and was an American Legions Post #296 member. Ralph had been a strong DAV supporter. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. He was a lifetime member of the S.W. Conservation Club and N.R.A. He retired from Zollner Pistons after 39 years of service.

He is survived by his daughters, Connie (Larry) Bleclic of Galena, Kansas, Sharon Merz and Cindy Richhart both of New Haven; 13 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandsons; and sister in law, Helen Merz.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Louise Merz, in 2002; brothers, Wayne and Herb Merz; son in law, Rick Richhart, 2015; and sister in laws, Crystal and Joan Merz.

Funeral Service is 11 a.m., Friday, February 20, 2015 at Covington Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road, with calling one hour prior. Calling is also 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Thursday, February 19, 2015 at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Covington Memorial Gardens with military honors. Preferred memorial are to DAV or S.W. Conservation Club.
