Richard “Burky” Burkholder, 87, passed away Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Parkview Randallia Hospital. Born on October 4, 1938, in Fort Wayne, Burky was the son of the late Marvin and Betty Burkholder.

Burky lived a life of service and dedication to God and Country. After graduating from high school, he joined the United States Navy, serving honorably for several years. Upon his release from active duty, he became a firefighter in Fort Wayne and answered his final call at his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion Post 296 and Peace Lutheran Church. His hobbies included Ice fishing and playing golf.

He is survived by his daughter, Stacy (Bryan) Engelhaupt; grandchildren, Tyler, Trevor and Chad; siblings Marlene Prince and Diana (Ralph) Traycoff and sister-in-law, Donna Burkholder. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Brian Burkholder and a brother Jack Burkholder.; and just days after Burky's passing, his brother-in-law, Chuck Prince passed away.

In keeping with Burky’s wishes, cremation will take place. He will be inurned privately at Covington Memorial Gardens in Fort Wayne at a later date.
