Richard Eugene Bussard, 85, of Fort Wayne, passed on Monday, June 3, 2013 at Covington Manor. Born in Huntington, he was the only child of Arthur and Anna (Falk) Bussard. The Navy veteran was a member of the American Legion 423 in Orland. He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. He retired after 34 years as a teacher from South Side High school in 1990; and was the president Fort Wayne Teachers Union. He was also on the Steuben Lake Council and Lime Lake Gage Assoc. He has spent the last 22 years during the winter in the Florida and summers at Lime Lake in Angola.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Mary Ann (Smith) Bussard; sons; Greg Bussard of Huntington and Neil (Nancy) Bussard of Fort Wayne; step children, Michael (Karen) Grashoff, Donald (Kathy) Grashoff, Steven (Laurie) Grashoff, Susan Grashoff all of Fort Wayne and Arnold (Denise) Grashoff of Plainfield, Ill; grandchildren, Matthew, Tom and Kim; 15 step-grandchildren; 20 step-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Bussard, 1987; and a son, Gary, in 1979.
Funeral Service is 11 a.m., Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Covington Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road, with calling one hour prior. Calling is also 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Covington Memorial Gardens with military honors. Preferred memorials are to Visiting Nurse.
