Richard Vincent Carmer, 93, passed Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Sage Bluff. Born in Fort Wayne, he was a son to the late Vernier and Gladys (Lathouse) Carmer. He served his country during WWII in the Army and was a member of American Legion 449, Elks, and he has been a Mason for over 60 years. He graduated from Purdue with a Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering. He was a member of the John Purdue Club. Dick retired from Essex Wire after many years of service.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jane Carmer; sons, Mike (Rose) Carmer of Fremont and James (Jessica Lockfeld) Carmer of Denver, Colorado; 4 grandchildren, Hailey (Jeff), Amanda (Steven), Andrew and Jillian (Ryan); with two great grandchildren on the way; and his cats, Rusty and Gracie.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Maxine Jennings.
Funeral Service is 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 4, 2017 at Covington Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road, with calling one hour prior. Calling is also 2-6 p.m., Sunday, December 3, 2017 at the funeral home. Masonic services will be at 5:30 p.m., Sunday just toward the end of calling. He will be laid to rest at Greenlawn Memorial Park with Military Honors. Preferred memorials are to Purdue University.
