Richard G. Doerfler, 82, of Springfield, IL, formerly of Fort Wayne and Vero Beach, FL, died Thursday May 10, 2007 at Saint John''s Hospital in Springfield, IL. Born September 9, 1924 in Fort Wayne, he was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne, and a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Vero Beach, FL. He is survived by his wife, Doris Doerfler of Springfield, IL; son, Gary Doerfler of Alexandria, VA; daughters, Janet Gray of Radford, VA and Jill Gerberding of Springfield, IL; sisters, Marilyn Berning, Eileen Weber, and Dorothy Schneider all of Fort Wayne; Five granddaughters. Service Sunday 5 p.m. with calling two hours prior at Covington Memorial Funeral Home 8408 Covington Rd. Entombment in Covington Memorial Gardens.
