Obituary

Lt. Richard Niles Norton (ret) died on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at home with his family. Dick was born on February 15, 1930 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He attended Central High School and graduated with the class of 1948. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country honorably through the Korean conflict and the Vietnam War. He retired in 1972 after 24 years of service. He was then employed by General Telephone and retired after 20 years of service. He met and married Wanda Lee Dorsey in 1951 in San Diego, CA. They had three children and traveled around the world during his service in the Navy. He enjoyed playing softball, bowling, hunting, fishing, spending time with family and friends, and later in life, his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda L Norton July 1, 2010, mother and father, Forrest and Anna Norton, his sister, Annabelle Zinc, and his daughters, Janet Bodinka and Rebeccca Norton. He is survived by his brother Jerry Norton (Elaine) of Ft. Wayne, IN, his son Richard A. Norton of Concord, CA and his three grandchildren, Jessica Carey of Cincinnati, OH, Timothy Bodinka of Spencerville, IN and Zachary Norton of Concord, CA as well as by his dear friend, Annette Carey of Ft. Wayne, IN Dick will be greatly missed as a brother, father, grandfather and friend. A celebration of life will be held for Dick on Saturday June 2, 2012 at his home starting at 1:00 p.m. with Navy Military honors at 2:00 p.m. All family and friends are invited to attend. Preferred gifts are to Parkview Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
