Richard Adolf Ruthsatz, 85, of Fort Wayne, died unexpectedly from a fall, on Monday, March 24, 2014 at Hospice Home. He was born in Dunkirk, New York, the only child of Adolf C. and Margaretta (Mowery) Ruthsatz. He attended Central High School and played the trumpet in the marching band. He retired from Morton Shoes as a Regional Sales Manager and in his retirement years worked for Lewis Bakery. He was a member of the Fort Wayne Bonsai Club and enjoyed volunteering at the Botanical Gardens, Lawton Greenhouse and Embassy.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Georgia L. (Boyd) Ruthsatz; sons, Richard (Trisha) of Torrance, California, Mike (Debbie) of Anderson, South Carolina and David (Debi) of Columbia, South Carolina; daughters, Pam (David) Sorg and Trudell Ort both of Fort Wayne; grandchildren and great grandchildren, Angela Lortie, Brandin (Tasha) Sorg, Cassiday Simcoe, Ken (Amie) Sorg, Angela (Shane) Bennett, Tina Sorg, Camilla Helmuth, Liz Hatfield, Michael (Ashley) Ruthsatz, Christy (Chris) Roper, Katie (Shane) Kjergaard, Cassandra Ruthsatz, Caitlyn Ruthsatz, Dakota Knapp, Chris Heintzelman, Selena, Trey, Zander, McKenzie, Emily, Ella, Tyler, Joey, Chastity, Ellianna, and Jayden.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty E. (Purdy) Ruthsatz, in 1958; and a daughter, Konnie Helmuth.
Funeral service is 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 28, 2014 at Covington Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road, with calling two hours prior. Officiating will be Rev. Richard Foust. He will be entombed at Covington Memorial Gardens. Preferred memorials are to Botanical Gardens or Visiting Nurse.
