Obituary

Robert F. Ely, 84, of Fort Wayne, passed away Wednesday September 5, 2007 at home. Born Jan. 19, 1923 in Fort Wayne, he was a U.S. Army veteran and fought with the 339th Custard Division in North Africa and Italy. He worked for K-part pharmsworth helping to build the first black & white television. He also worked for 24 years at AMPT Company, and five years at Essex Wire. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. His hobbies were fishing, camping, and walking his dogs in the woods. Surviving is his wife Mona Winkleblack Ely; sons, Larry (Sandy) Ely of Eless, TX, and Perry (Marilyn) Ely of Fort Wayne. Sister, Jean Wittaker of Austin, TX. 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant grandson, Michael; father, Fay Ely; mother, Bessie Ely; brothers, Floyd and Harold Ely; a sister Mary Hire. Service Saturday 11 a.m. with calling one hour prior at Covington Memorial Funeral Home 8408 Covington Rd. Calling also Friday 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial in Covington Memorial Gardens.
