Robert Walter, 88, went to his heavenly rest on Thursday April 11, 2013. Born in Fostoria, Ohio, the youngest of 9, he grew up on the Walter farmstead. He graduated from Clyde High School in 1943 and soon after, began an exemplary career in the military. In 1945 while stationed in Texas he met the love of his life, Naoma Harrell and they married September 22, 1945. She survives. During his 21 years of service he was active duty during WWII, Korean Conflict and the Viet Nam Conflict. He flew 50 combat missions in the 15th. AF unit out of Italy and many short TDYS support of unit exercises or traning. He retired from service in 1966 and began his career in aircraft maintenance. He came to Fort Wayne in 1968 when he took a job with Essex Wire at Baer Field. He retired in 1988. He spent retirement with his wife and family spending many fun times at Lake Wawassee boating and fishing. His whole life he lived for his God, country, family and friends. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church where he spent many years in service to the Lord in the choir. Aside from his deeply devoted wife of 67 ½ years, Naoma, he is survived by daughter, Jana, grandson, Paul, who sat vigil and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by a son Scott, 6 sisters, and 2 brothers. Service is 12:00 p.m. Monday April 15, 2013 at Covington Memorial Funeral Home with calling 2 hour prior to service. There is also calling Sunday 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial in Covington Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Preferred memorials to; Calvary United Methodist Church, Fort Wayne A.M.I. or Wounded Warriors Project.
A family verse is; "Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light".
