Obituary

Roman Charles Warneke, age102, of Ft. Wayne, passed away Wednesday June 17, 2009 at his residence. Born in Freeport, MN, he was the son of Joseph and Gertrude Warneke. He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a BS degree in Electrical Mechanical Engineering. He was an Engineer at General Electric and taught classes at Ft Wayne College. He also wrote 12 songs and published a book of poetry. He played harmonica and violin for many years. He formerly lived in Defiance, OH, Hillsdale, MI and Anderson, IN. After retirement he went to work for H. & R. Block. He was married to Carolyn A. Morse and Mabel Boettcher who both preceded him in death. He is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Brown and her husband, Steven, and Sue Collins, and her husband Pastor Ben, 6 Grandchildren and 6 Great Grandchildren. Roman was cared for by Marilyn and Steven for 12 years before his passing along with help from the nurses and aides at Parkview Hospice Care. The Mass of the Resurrection will be Saturday June 20, 2009, at 11:00 am at Queen of Angels Catholic Church, Ft. Wayne. Visitation will be Friday June 19, 2009 at Covington Memorial Funeral from 4:00 to 6:00 pm and 7:00 to 8:00 pm with a Prayer Service to be held at 5:30 pm. Cremation will follow after the service and committal of his ashes will be at a later date.
