Ronald "Ron" G. Werskey, 82, passed away on Monday, August 14, 2023 at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, IN. Born at home in Brownstown, IN, on August 3, 1941, Ron was a son to the late George William and Alice Marie (Wienhorst) Werskey. He was a graduate of the 1960 Central High School Class, Dutchess Community College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. in 1975 and was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. Ron served honorably in the United States Marine Corps from 1961 to 1967 with the 4th Marine Division Recon during the Vietnam War. He was decorated with awards such as the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Good Conduct Medal. Ron was a member of the American Legion Post 47 Fort Wayne, IN. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America for 50 years in N.Y. Ron volunteered for the Special Olympics for 20 years, the American Legion for the Blind and D.C. Heart Foundation. For five years, Ron coached basketball in Dutchess County, New York and was a member of the Coaches Clinic. He proudly won three state championships in a row. Ron enjoyed watching I.U. Basketball, Notre Dame Football, N.Y. Yankees and Indianapolis Colts. IndyCar racing and particularly the Indianapolis 500, during Memorial Day weekend, was a special time for he, his family, and his friends since his frist race in 1966. Every year, for the past 50 years in a row. Surviving are his children, Colette Werskey, Stephanie (Steve Gonzales) Werskey, John J. Werskey and Jessica (Adam) Tippmann; sister, Carolyn (Cork) Henderson; and 7 grandchildren, Abbey, Leena, Nicolette, Molly, Julia, Logan and Henry Walker. Funeral service 1:00pm, Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at Covington Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation 4:00pm to 8:00pm, Monday, August 21, 2023 at Covington Memorial Funeral Home. Burial, with military honors, in Covington Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthew's Lutheran Church.
