Roselyn Ruth (Nidlinger) Buechner, 80 of Davis, California, formerly of Fort Wayne, died on Easter Sunday, April 8th 2007. She was a 1944 graduate of North Side High School, a member of the Sigma Alpha Psi sorority, and worked for several years at the Lincoln Life Insurance Company downtown. Best known in Fort Wayne as a creative candy maker and decorator, "Rosie" taught classes at the Country Kitchen on Wells Avenue and later founded the "Nutcracker Sweet Shoppe" on Garfield Street where she practiced the arts of European chocolatiering and cake decorating. She was also accomplished in egguery, using the Faberge and similar styles.
In California, she served as office manager for the Hospice program at the University of California Davis Medical Center where she was an inspiration to the staff and patients with her kindness, positive energy and inner strength. An avid gardener with a green thumb (particularly for roses) , she also served as a volunteer with the UC Davis Arboretum and as a decorator for the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena.
She was married to Willard Otto Buechner, an Army veteran of World War II who predeceased her in 1982, She never remarried. She was also predeceased by her sister Violet (Nidlinger) Doherty and brother Wayne Nidlinger.
She is survived by her sister Marie (Nidlinger) Hill of Fort Wayne, sons Chris (Carollee) of Chicago, Randy (Mary Beth) of Davis, CA, and Barton (Pat) of Yountville, CA. Her five grandchildren are Meghan, Christopher, Will, Ellie, and Jessica.
Funeral will held be Saturday April 14th at 11:00 AM, Covington Memorial Funeral Home 8408 Covington Rd. Services will be conducted by Rev. Jeffery O. Stratton of Evansville, a lifelong friend of the family.
