Russell Henry Himmelein, 87, was called to Heaven Friday, October 26, 2018. He was born February 28, 1931 in Fort Wayne, to the late William and Rose Himmelein. Russ proudly served his country in the Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Shenandoah (AD-26); he was also a member of the American Legion 241 Waynedale. Russell retired after 39 years in Shipping and Receiving for Rea Magnet Wire; he also bowled for Rea Magnet Wire Bowling League and had also bowled at Smitty's Lanes in Waynedale. He was a member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church; serving in many positions including usher, deacon and school board member. He was a member of the church dart ball team and played in the league for many years.
Russ was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. We will always love and never forget you or your his great hugs. You leave us with everlasting memories. Dad and Mom were married 66 years residing in Waynedale their entire married lives. Their relationship and faith in God were an example to us all. Dad and Mom vacationed to different states over the years and went camping in the summer when they were young. He enjoyed T.V. Cubs, Colts and a big John Wayne fan.
Surviving is his devoted wife and caregiver of 66 years, Carolyn Himmelein; children, Mike (Melinda) Himmelein of Fort Wayne, Mark Himmelein of Fort Wayne and Laura (John) Cederdahl of Carmel; 7 grandchildren, John, Sarah, Matt, Kelli, Dan, Lilly, Abby; and 7 great-grandchildren.
Russ was also preceded in death by a brother, Chester Himmelein.
Memorial service is 1:00 p.m., Monday November 5, 2018 at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 1918 Reservation Dr., Fort Wayne, Indiana 46819. There will be calling one hour prior to the memorial service. He will be laid to rest at Covington Memorial Gardens with military honors. Preferred memorial are to Heartland Hospice.
