Ruth A. Whitmer, 82, of Angola, IN passed away on April 24, 2024.  She was born in Fort Wayne, IN on January 31st, 1942, a daughter of the late John and Moness Hooper.

She worked at Elmhurst High School and had a passion for helping children to learn to read.  She was a bookkeeper for an optometrist and also worked as a bank teller for a number of years.

Ruth enjoyed spending time with her family and six grandchildren, reading and boat rides on the lake.  She and her husband enjoyed traveling to the Caribbean, Florida, the east coast and various outdoor activities.

Surviving are her husband of 57 years, Bill Whitmer; children, Joseph (Monica) Whitmer, Jeffrey (Mindy) Whitmer; six grandchildren, Natalie, Grant, Cameron, Meredith, Chloe and Carson; three sisters, Pat, Susan and Carolyn.

She was preceded in death by brothers, John, Raymond, James and Donald; sisters Virginia and Rosemary.

Memorial calling will be held from 4 PM to 7 PM on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at Covington Memorial Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Rd., Ft. Wayne, IN 46804.

Memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, May 3, 2024 with calling one hour prior also at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions to be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
