Obituary

Scott Russell Roach, age 75, of San Antonio, Florida, peacefully passed away on January 6, 2025, in the loving arms of his wife, Debra Roach, following a courageous 5-year battle with cancer.

Scott was born on September 27th, 1949, to Eleanor Russell and Allen Roach in Erie, Pennsylvania and raised by his stepfather James Higgins. After completing a Maintenance Electro-Mechanical Apprenticeship with General Electric in Erie, he furthered his education with an associate's degree in industrial maintenance technology from Indiana Vocational Technical College and a Bachelor of Science Degree from Indiana Wesleyan University, both in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Scott had a distinguished career, working at General Electric, GTE Data Services/Verizon, and General Federal Credit Union. As a master electrician, he brought skill and leadership to his roles, eventually retiring as a Director in Maintenance. His career is a testament to his dedication and expertise in his field.

Scott was honorably discharged from the United States Navy after serving four years aboard the USS Graham County, stationed in Naples, Italy, and the USS Recovery, stationed in Little Creek, Virginia. He continued his service with two years in the active reserves.

In 1974, Scott met Debra Hege, and they were married in September of 1975 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. They recently celebrated 49 years of marriage.

Scott had a wide range of interests, including snow and water skiing, scuba diving, golf, playing cards and games, and traveling. In his younger years, he was active in Civil War re-enacting. He deeply valued his family and friends, and alongside his wife, hosted many memorable events over the years. One of his greatest joys was the Russell Family Cousins Reunions, held every 2-3 years, where he could reconnect with cousins from across the country. During his cancer treatment, Scott found comfort in watching television, particularly westerns, and treasured the visits from family and friends.

Scott was predeceased by his parents, Allen, Eleanor, and James, as well as his sisters, Sandra Tunney and Jennifer Adams (Richard) from Pennsylvania.

He is survived by his wife, Debra, his son, Paul Roach from California, his sisters-in-law, Vicki Sikora and Laura Fair (Elbert), his brother-in-law, Tom Hege from Indiana, and three generations of nephews and nieces, all of whom he treasured.

A celebration of life for Scott will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Tampa Bay Golf & Country Club Community Center at 2:00 pm. Scott will be buried at Covington Memorial Gardens in Fort Wayne, Indiana on Friday, April 18, 2025, with a graveside service including military honors at 1:00 pm. Food will be available at both events.
