Obituary

Sewell Jernigan, 79, formally of Fort Wayne, died peacefully, May 23, 2010 at McGivney Nursing Home in Carmel, IN. He was born December 13, 1930 in Bradyville, TN. He served in the US Army during the Korean War, 1951 - 1953, where he drove for the General. Following active duty he served in the Reserves and was honorably discharged in 1959. He was in the car business as a painter and salesman for Rice/Johnstone Oldsmobile and Evans Toyota. He was the owner of Premier Auto, with his son, Rex. We love you and will always miss that handsome smile. You are at peace now. You were loyal and honest with a great sense of humor. He was known as "Doc", "The Southern Gentleman", and Dr. J." He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years that he married on July 7, 1951, Mary Alice (nee. Rust); daughters and son-in-laws, Pamela Rena and Joel Erwin and Joy Julene and Brian Engquist; daughter-in-law, Karen Ann (nee. Nichter) Jernigan; brothers, French, Aubrey, Shoffner and Kenneth; grandchildren, Amber and Preston Jernigan, Tarrah Schrock, Bronson, Brittany and Chase Engquist, and Jack Pipes; one great granddaughter, Kassidy Holland. He was preceded in death by his son, Rex in 2008. Service is Noon, with military honors, Friday, May 28, 2010 at Covington Memorial Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road, with calling one hour prior to service. Calling is also 5 - 8 p.m., Thursday at the Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest in Marion National Cemetery.
