Obituary

Steven Jay Crawford, 61, of Roanoke, IN, passed away on September 28, 2026. Steve was born on June 8, 1965, in Huntington, IN. He lived in Fort Wayne for many years before eventually settling in Roanoke. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, son, and friend.

Steve is survived by his wife, Tonia Crawford; daughter, Katie Chrisman; brothers, Rich Crawford (Niki), Dave Crawford (Cathy), and John Crawford (Beth); and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Jacob Crawford, and his parents, James and Carolyn Crawford.

Steve lived a very full life. After graduating from Indiana University Bloomington, he served on the Huntington Fire Department from 1988–1998. In 1999, he began his career at Lincoln Financial Group, where he spent the next 26 years, ultimately working in Advanced Sales until his retirement in 2025. He was extremely proud of the career he built and the many people he met along the way.

Steve was loved and respected by his family, friends, and coworkers. He had a way of making everyone feel like they mattered. He made a point to know and use everyone’s name, whether you were a close friend or the waitress at a restaurant. It was just who he was.

He loved to golf, especially with his wife and former boss and friend, Mike Harris. He loved watching Purdue games with his daughter, pretty much any sport on TV, and especially Formula 1. He was a huge animal lover and had a particular soft spot for his goldendoodle, Nellie. He loved tropical vacations, where the rum and Tito’s were always flowing, and you could almost always find him with a cup of coffee in his hand.

Steve will be missed more than words can say by the people who knew and loved him. He leaves behind a lot of good memories, a lot of stories, and a lot of people who were lucky to call him family or friend.

A celebration of life will be held from 4:00–6:00 p.m. on October 5, 2026, at Covington Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home in Fort Wayne, with remarks beginning at 6:00 p.m.
