Obituary

Susan Lee Havert, 68, left her earthly body behind and right into Jesus' arms on Tuesday, March 24, 2020.  We think she may have even done handstands immediately up and down the steps of heaven because she often liked to brag about how she could do that as a little girl. She was born in Fort Wayne to the late William and Edna Jean (Child) Kaufman.  She lived in Fort Wayne all her life, where she raised three kids and loved on four grandchildren. Susan was employed by Lutheran Hospital in the information services help desk department for over 50 years. Many Lutheran Hospital employees might not recognize her face but would definitely recognize her friendly and helpful voice. She watched technology go from computers the size of refrigerators and change to the size of your hand, and kept up with the changes so well that she was an asset to her department up until the day she passed, because she never really got around to retiring.
Susan is survived by her children, Shawn Havert, Erin (Evan) Glassley and Wendy Havert; sister, Bonnie Evans; brother, Mark Kaufman; and grandchildren, Haley, Ryan, Nolan and Riley. Her grandchildren can all attest to the fact that she loved having them climb onto her comfortable lap, and that she always had warm hands and some sort of treat to give them. Susan had a special and sweet relationship with her younger sister, Bonnie, who in many ways she was more like a Mom to - dubbing her the name "Momma Susan".
One word used to describe Susan has been that she had perseverance. Her life wasn't always an easy one, but she was quick with a smile and pleasant chat to anyone she met.
Susan was also preceded in death by her brothers, William Kaufman and David Kaufman.
Memorial Service is 6 p.m., July 27, 2020 at Pathway Community Church, 11910 Shearwater Run, Fort Wayne, IN 46845, there will be visitation two hours prior to the service.
