Thomas John Berning, 63, passed peacefully Monday, June 26, 2017 with sleep apnea. He was a graduate of Concordia Lutheran High School where he excelled in athletics. He worked at Vera Bradley as a truck driver and prior was in construction. He is a member of St. Michael Lutheran Church.

Tom is survived by his wife of 34 years, Linda Berning of Fort Wayne; son, Ben (Amne) Berning of Fort Wayne; parents, Dorothy (and the late, Henry) Berning of Fort Wayne; brothers, Henry "Hank" Berning of Fort Wayne, Daniel (Nancy) Berning of Valparaiso, Michael (Denise) Berning of Leesburg and Kent Berning of Arkansas; sisters, Janet (Eric) Olsen Of Fort Wayne and Jean (Mark) Bienz of Florida.

Funeral Service is 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 29, 2017 at St. Michael Lutheran Church, 2131 Getz Road, with calling one hour prior. Pastor Reed Lessing will be officiating. Calling is also 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at the church. He will be laid to rest at Covington Memorial Gardens. Preferred memorials are to St. Michael Lutheran Church.
