Obituary

Tyson Porter Jr., born in Covington County, Alabama, the son of Tyson Porter Sr., & Rebecca Gilbert, on March 25th, 1936, where he learned life lessons on the farm from his father. He accepted Christ into his life at a young age in Alabama and was dedicated to his family & church. He moved to Panama City, Florida as a teenager where he lived until 1956 when he moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana. He soon met his lifelong Soulmate, Betty Middleton in 1957.

They were married on November 30, 1957. Tyson was such a kind and selfless man. The only son in the family of 5 daughters, some said he should be spoiled having five sisters. But he was so self-reliant and capable of doing almost anything for himself. A kind and loving man with a beautiful heart. If you ever met a man who would give you the shirt off his back, if you needed it, then you met Tyson Porter.

Tyson supported his family by working for General Electric over 35 years and 20 years at the Indiana State Developmental School. He retired from both jobs in 1995.

Together, Tyson & Betty were dedicated to each other through 59 years of marriage. They demonstrated everyday love and devotion to their family and friends. They were blessed with two sons, Chris and Jeffery, one grandson, Tywan and one great-granddaughter, Adirah.

Tyson's retirement years were dedicated to his volunteer work with an 3rd Street Church of God food pantry program. His outgoing personality never met a stranger. His hobbies included his yard and gardens, working with his collection of tools and going to auctions. There at the local auctions, he made new friends and enjoyed old friends. His pride and joy were keeping his house and yard well-manicured, and spoiling his little dogs Tazzy and Sassy.

Tyson was truly a God-loving, family loving, people loving man with a heart of gold. He will surely be missed by his loving wife, family and by the lives he touched.

Tyson leaves to cherish his memories wife, Betty Porter, son''s Christopher Porter (Fort Wayne, IN), and Jeffery Porter (Phoenix, AZ), grandson, Tywan Cole (Indianapolis, IN), great-granddaughter, Adriah Alejo,(Indianapolis, IN), sister Mary Ellen-Johnson (Birmingham ,AL), and host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Tyson Sr., mother Rebecca, sisters, Catherine Cobb, Sarah Greene, Ethel Poindexter, and Vanetta Davidson.
