Victor "Joe" Adkins, 82, died on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at Peabody Retirement Community. He was born in Denver, Indiana, son of the late, William R. and Edna C. (Smith) Adkins. He served his country in the Army and was also a member of the American Legion and V.F.W. in Columbia City. He retired in 1994 after 36 years of service with United Telephone-Sprint.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marge (Rock) Adkins; sons, William (Mary) of Columbia City, Randall (Sheila) of Prosser, Washington and Norman (Jennifer) of Larwill; daughters, Cindy (Carroll) Eaton of Waldron, Michigan, Linda (George) Ward of Brooksville, Florida, Edna (Dan) Kindig of Silver Lake and Sarah (Joe) Lopez of Columbia City; brother, Walter "Jake" Adkins of Columbia City; sister, Cathaline Ressler of Columbia City; 16 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jeff Adkins, on December 15, 1989; grandson, Michael Adkins; and great grandson, Nick Adkins.
Funeral service is 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Covington Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road, with calling one hour prior. Officiating services will be Pastor Richard C. Maron. Calling is also 4-8 p.m., Friday, July 18, 2014 at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Covington Memorial Gardens with military honors. Preferred memorials are to the Alzheimer''s Association.
