Obituary

Virgil Leroy Showalter, 96, of Fort Wayne, died on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at Hamilton House. Born in Warsaw, he was the son of the late Vernon and Opal Showalter. In the 1930''s he was a paper carrier for the Journal Gazette for 15 years. He was a Boy Scout and leader for over 35 years; and was also a WW11 Army veteran. He retired from Peter Eckrich & Sons after 38 years of service.
He is survived by his sons, Donald (Cindy) of Fort Wayne and Keith (Melanie) of Indianapolis; daughters, Carolyn (Donald) Nicole of Fort Wayne and Donna and (Ron) Hanson of Marble Falls, Texas; 8 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Elsie J., in 2001; brothers, Paul, Kenneth and Cloice; sisters, Katherine Leason, Virginia Snyder and Violet Gantz.
Funeral Service is 10 a.m. Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Covington Memorial Gardens, 8408 Covington Road, with calling one hour prior to service. Calling is also 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, May 11, 2012. He will be laid to rest at Covington Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorials are to HeartLand Hospice.
