Obituary

William Carl Zion, 75, passed away April 11 2017. He was born in Ft Wayne on January 23, 1942, to the late Carl and Troy Ann Zion. Graduating from Central High School, Ft Wayne, in 1960, Bill was one of the first 100 employees hired at the new BF Goodrich plant in Woodburn in 1961. He retired from Goodrich in 1996 after a 35 year career there. Bill served his country as a member of the Army Reserve in the early 60''s.

Bill was a devoted Boy Scout volunteer, having served as Scoutmaster, Venture Leader and District Training Committee member. He led the Council Contingent to the 1989 National Jamboree at Ft A.P Hill Virginia, co founded the Anthony Wayne Reservation Campmaster" program, and has been recognized with the District Award of Merit, Silver Beaver and George Meany Award from the Anthony Wayne Area Council BSA. Bill was a Vigil Member of Kiskakon Lodge Order of the Arrow, a Scout Honor Camping society. He loved camping, and volunteered several weeks each year to serve as a leader for groups of scouts who could not attend Scout Camp with their home troop. He was a founding member of the "Over the Hill Gang", a group of long tenured Scouters who provide maintenance and facility improvements at the Anthony Wayne Scout Reservation which is the Anthony Wayne Area Council''s Scout Camp.
Bill''s devotion and service to Scouting touched the lives of thousands of young people through the years. Bill was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church where he served as deacon and was a Session Member of the church.

Bill is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years Madge Zion; sons, James and Scott, (Shannon); and 4 grandchildren, Emily, Andrew, Jacob and Matthew.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Nancy Stoller.

Memorial service is 6 p.m., Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at Grace Presbyterian Church, 1811 Fairhill Rd. Preferred memorials are to Anthony Wayne Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, 8315 W. Jefferson Blvd. Arrangements by Covington Memorial Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road.
